“Sperling im Augarten”—culinary experience at Schloss Augarten.

Restaurateurs Andreas Sael and Aurelio Nitsche have already made a name for themselves with Restaurant Hill in the 19th district and their hospitality ventures at the Belvedere. Since 2020, they have been running Sperling—their restaurant right in the Augarten, Vienna 1020—and have established it as a firm institution in Leopoldstadt. The concept revolves entirely around the story of the house sparrow: since 1775, these birds have made their home in the Augarten thanks to Emperor Joseph II. Following the motto "Luck is a little bird", Sperling combines a cosy atmosphere, colourful surroundings, and Austrian crossover cuisine—right in the heart of one of Vienna's most beautiful parks.

Austrian cuisine with character

At Sperling, the menu is made for ordering and sharing across the board: homemade black pudding on brioche with Sichuan port wine fig, tender veal neck slow-cooked in olive oil with capers and herbs on smoked celeriac cream, Wiener Schnitzel of veal, or a juicy beef burger made with 100% Austrian beef. To finish, fresh Dukatenbuchteln with vanilla sauce or curd cream with a delicate hint of tonka bean—homemade, seasonal, prepared with love. Accompanied by a fine selection of Austrian and international wines.

170 seats with a view of the Augarten

Two generous sun terraces with a total of 170 seats invite you to linger—beneath open sun sails, with a view of the historic Augarten park. Sperling is the place where Sunday roast is celebrated with the family, friends gather for breakfast, and a Sissi Tonic with warm Buchteln after a stroll is always just right. Incidentally, Sperling offers 40 free guest parking spaces right at the door—a true rarity in Vienna.
